Two Charged Over Coffs Police Chase In Stolen Vehicle

Police have charged two people over an alleged police pursuit in a stolen vehicle through Coffs Harbour yesterday. 

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District were patrolling on the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour, when they spotted a Hyundai i30 allegedly driving in a dangerous manner just after 4pm (Wednesday 20 February 2019).

A police pursuit was initiated but terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

The vehicle turned west onto Orlando Street, where it crashed into the kerb and hit a Subaru Forester. No one was injured.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and, after a short foot pursuit, a 25-year-old man was arrested nearby. During the arrest, a male Senior Constable suffered minor injuries.

Officers seized a white substance believed to be methylamphetamine, which will undergo forensic examination.

A search of the vehicle revealed it had been stolen from Burleigh Waters, Queensland, and the numberplates were stolen from a car in the Harrington area in February 2019.

Both the man and woman were taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

The Tweed Heads man was charged with 16 offences, including driving recklessly and without a license, plus an outstanding arrest warrant.

He was refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Thursday 21 February 2019).

The Kingscliff woman was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and resist or hinder police officer in execution of duty.

She was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 18 March 2019.
