It was the star of the HALO production for the last few weeks, but for 55 years now the Castle Hill Saint has been a Townsville icon.

Townsville’s Peter Higgins was part of the group of James Cook University students who concocted the plan.

It was 55 years ago when the students under the moonlight, painted an icon that has become a long-lasting creation.

Around 2am on Saint Patrick’s Day the JCU students painted the Saint, then made their way down the hill and waited until sunrise to see their masterpiece in the daylight.

The event quickly made national headlines, and now it’s being revealed how the group managed to make the painting so permanent.

The secret…adding CEMENT to the paint!

THANK YOU TOWNSVILLE FOR RAISING $60,000 FOR MENTAL HEALTH!
