Council will mark national Reconciliation Week with a special flag raising ceremony at the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt at 10.30am on Wednesday 29 May 2019.

Mayor Keith Campbell invites the community to attend this event and to take a moment to consider what reconciliation encompasses.

“Reconciliation Week runs annually from 27 May to 3 June and is a time for us to explore how we can continue to foster respect, trust and positive relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Mayor Campbell said.

The theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week is “Grounded in Truth: Walk Together with Courage”. The theme recognises that at the heart of reconciliation is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to foster positive race relations our relationships must be grounded in foundations of truth.

Mayor Campbell said, “The flag raising ceremony will signify the unity between the many cultures found in the South Burnett.”

“Everyone is welcome to attend the flag raising ceremony as a mark of respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during Reconciliation Week,” Mayor Campbell added.

A community morning tea will follow the flag raising ceremony.
