Police are seeking public assistance to help find a man involved in an alleged assault at Lamberts Beach. Just before ten Friday night a man was in the Pacific Esplanade car park when another man approached him and punched him in the face without reason. The man was reportedly with two other people and all three fled on foot, with one allegedly kicking the car on the way past. Anyone with information is asked to call Police.

Postal voting closes today across Mackay and The Whitsundays. The AEC is putting out the advice as pre-polling continues to be a popular option for those who can’t make it on election day. Spokesperson Phil Diak says they also have options for the sick and elderly. Check the AEC website for details.

Making algae more resilient to climate change could help stop coral bleaching. It's the research scientists from the University of Queensland are currently looking at. Bleaching happens when algae disconnect from coral under environmental stress. The researchers are looking for those genes to stop the coral losing their energy source.

We're being urged to be a more vigilant while driving throughout regional parts of Queensland this winter. It comes as new RACQ data shows the number of crashes involving wildlife spikes during the cooler months.  Spokesperson Renee Smith says the largest number of claims were for crashes near Roma, St. George and Chinchilla, but with high traffic on the Bruce Highway at night there’s also a high risk for Mackay motorists.
