Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery in Mackay. A man reportedly went into a store on Evans Street around 3:30 Sunday afternoon with a knife. He then allegedly demanded money from the twenty-two year old female employee before leaving the store. He’s described as Caucasian, and is thought to be around fifty years old, with grey stubble. The final report on Adani’s Black-throated Finch Management Plan has been completed. It was handed over to the mining giant by the Department of Environment and Science yesterday to provide them the opportunity to consider the recommendations and provide a response. There is no time-frame set in stone for this procedure, however the Department has urged Adani to make their decision as quickly as possible. This is just one of two environmental management plans that need to be approved before the Carmichael Mine project can go ahead, the other being the Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem Management Plan.

 

O-week activities have kicked kick off across Mackay universities as hundreds of students prepare for their studies. James Cook University Associate Professor Maree Dinan Thompson says while it can be a scary time, there's plenty of help for you to navigate your first few weeks on campus. She says they have plenty on for students to get involved in so get on down to your campus and join in on the festivities.
