Kambalda underground miner John Eastoe wasn't taking the application seriously when he applied to be on the 2019 Australian Survivor: Champions vs Contenders edition.

In fact, he was "taking the p...", but sure enough the man with the luscious moustache and flowing mullet has been selected on the latest version of the TV show, and will hit screens next week when the show goes to air.

The Goldfields man, who plays for the Kambalda Football Club and has been dubbed "the ultimate Aussie larrikin", said he was not prepared at all for what was in store, but used a classic Aussie tactic when approaching the show.

"I rocked up ready to wing it. I thought I was going camping," he joked. "I don't mind camping, but when I got there there was no beer or food."

Mr Eastoe faces a line-up of champions including former Brisbane Lions captain Simon Black and Winter Olympics' Gold medallist Steven Bradbury. The show will air on Channel 10 from next Wednesday.
