Extra Ambo Desperately Needed

Goldfields town needs second vehicle

A senior St John Ambulance volunteer in the Goldfields is hoping to raise much needed funds to purchase an off-road ambulance for the Leonora district.

Attending over 500 call-outs, Ralph Briggs has been volunteering for almost four years.

The Goldfields town is surrounded by bush tracks, which tend to be four-wheel-drive only — especially in wet weather — and they need a vehicle that can handle the terrain. Due to this, the current ambulance has taken some severe damage.

Along with being damaged, the town’s ambulance is only able to carry one person at a time. Having another ambulance would better equip the team when attending car crashes and incidents where more than one person was hurt.

The total cost of the second-hand ambulance is $120,000.

Currently they're over halfway to the total with Minara Resources putting $70,000 towards it, but there was still another $50,000 to go.
