Car Rescued From Floodwaters In Cannon Valley

It’s been a lucky escape for some from floodwaters in Cannon Valley. Queensland Fire and Emergency was called to Brandy Creek Road around six last night to reports a car had driven into floodwater. The occupants of the car were safely by the roadside by the time crews arrived, however, their dog was missing. No injuries were reported in the incident but Police are reminding residents, if it’s flooded forget it.

Negotiations have ended peacefully to remove an unwanted visitor south of Bowen. Police were called to a property on the corner of the Bruce Highway and Miowera Road around ten yesterday morning when a sixty year old man refused to leave. Negotiators were called from Whitsunday Police to reach a peaceful resolution. Emergency Services left the scene just after four.

Bill Shorten has made his presence known in Mackay. Visiting yesterday, the Opposition Leader pledged five million dollars, should he be elected, to the Great Barrier Reef Arena expansion project. The funding would sit on top of ten million dollars from the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund. Negotiations are still underway with the State Government and Mackay Regional Council to bring the full value of Stage One to the table.
